Meet Our Team
Dr. Michael Poulos was born in New York City. He spent time in Philadelphia and Chicago before making his home in Denver. Dr. Poulos first received a bachelor of science in zoology and biochemistry from Syracuse University and then went on to the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry, where he earned his doctor of dental medicine.
After two years of practicing as a general dentist, Dr. Poulos decided he wanted to do more. In 1978, he entered Northwestern University, where he received his masters of science in Biomaterials as well as his certificate in clinical periodontics and surgery. Dr. Poulos then returned to Denver where he joined Dr. Orban and Dr. Silberman at one of this country's oldest and most-respected periodontal practices. He has been happily serving patients in this practice since 1980.
Over the years, Dr. Poulos has worked hard to earn his reputation as one of the leaders in his field. In addition to being a fellow of the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, the American College of Oral Implantology and the Pierre Fauchard Academy, he is also a member of and has acted as president or chairman of the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity, the Denver Dental Forum, the Rocky Mountain Society of Periodontists, the Rocky Mountain Dental Study Club, the Metro Denver Dental Society and the Denver Dental Foundation, which was founded to offer dental services to battered women. He also founded the Rocky Mountain Osseointegration Implant Study Club, the Slopeside Implant Study Club and has acted as general arrangements co-chair of the Rocky Mountain Dental Convention.
Dr. Poulos also lectures nationally and locally on the practice of periodontics and implant dentistry and has acted as an expert witness for the State Dental Board on numerous occasions. Dr. Poulos is also working in conjunction with leading companies in the dental implant field, researching new technologies that will continue to improve his field and the lives of his patients.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Poulos also serves on the board of Denver Community Federal Credit Union where he had the honor of being the chairman from 1996-1997 and again from 2006-2008. He also sits on the board of Christ’s Body Ministries, an organization committed to feeding, dressing and serving the poor and homeless people of Denver. In his free time, Dr. Poulos enjoys golfing, skiing fishing and hunting. He finds his true happiness when spending time with his wife of 37 years, Terri, their two children, Nick and Jenni; their children’s spouses, Nicole and Scott and their grandchildren, Mikey, Asher, Kirstin and Elora.
Dr. Ann Somers was born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. In 1981, her father’s job relocated her family to Grand Junction, Colorado. Out on the western slope, Dr. Somers graduated from Grand Junction High School and fell in love with her new home state.
Dr. Somers moved back to Wisconsin for college, where she graduated with honors from Marquette University with a bachelor of science degree. She then returned to Colorado and received her doctor of dental surgery from the University of Colorado School of Dentistry. She completed her training with a periodontal residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. There she also received her master’s degree in periodontics. Dr. Somers then returned to Colorado, where she joined the practice of Orban, Silberman & Poulos in the summer of 1998.
Dr. Somers is board-certified in the practice of periodontics. She is active in organized dentistry and is a member of the Metropolitan Denver Dental Society, the Colorado Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the Southwest Society of Periodontics and the American Academy of Periodontics. She is also a co-founder of the Colorado Dental Supper Club. Dr. Somers is an active member of several local study clubs and organizations, providing continued education on the latest periodontics topics & technologies and the surgical placement of dental implants.
Dr. Somers enjoys spending time with her husband, Curtis, their daughter, Carolyn and their Portuguese water dog, Domino. She is an avid Denver Nuggets fan, cheering them on with enthusiasm! She also enjoys reading, traveling, watching movies, spending time outdoors gardening and downhill skiing.
Dr. Nicholas Poulos was born in Chicago but moved to Colorado as a baby. He considers himself a Colorado native. He graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder with honors and a double degree in neuroscience and psychology. He chose to stay in Colorado, attending the University of Colorado Dental School, where he graduated with honors. Dr. Nick earned his postgraduate certificate in periodontics and implantology as well as a master's degree in oral biology from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia.
Dr. Nick is board-certified in the practice of periodontics and is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the American Academy of Osseointegration, the American Dental Association, the Colorado Dental Association, Metro Denver Dental Society and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He sits on the boards of the Denver Dental Foundation, is the president of the Denver Dental Forum and is a co-founder of the Colorado Dental Supper Club. He has served as president of Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity, has presented to dentists and periodontists at national meetings and has been published in some of the industry's leading professional journals.
In addition to serving in organized dentistry, he has lectured on dental implants, laser periodontal therapy or LANAP, 3D-guided surgery, intraoral plastic surgery and periodontal therapy. Dr. Nick brings the latest cutting-edge technology to the Poulos & Somers practice.
He currently lives in Littleton with his wife Nicole, son Mikey, daughter Kirstin and chocolate labrador Zoe. Dr. Nick is an avid Denver sports fan, cheering on the Broncos, Buffs, Avs, Nuggets and Rockies. His other hobbies include skiing, golfing, watching movies and cooking gourmet meals for friends and family.
